Prime Minister
Harper,
I'm profoundly worried about global climate change in the Arctic regions of the world and the menace this visits on the Polar Bear.
Arctic temperatures are heating up at nearly double the rate of that of the rest of the world, and it's dangerous to place the whole Arctic ecosystem in peril. For the majestic polar bear, a symbol of the Arctic and its inhabitants, climate change could mean their rapid and eventual demise.
The polar bear relies upon sea ice to exist, feeding on seals until the ice vanishes every summer. As global warming contracts the pack ice, the polar bear suffers loss of valuable hunting time, and fewer polar bears are born which causes a decline in the overall population.
I call upon the Government of Canada to defend the polar bear's home ground and work at slowing the effects of global warming in Canada's delicate and precious Far North.
I call on the Government of Canada to take leadership in protecting our wilderness heritage. It's vital that we provide global leadership in the fight against global warming
I call upon the Government of Canada to institute strong rules and regulations regarding access to and removal of natural resources from within Canada's Northern regions. Oil and gas development shouldn't come about at the expense of Canada's wildlife.
I call upon the Government of Canada to do its utmost to preserve vital living space for all Arctic species, and assure that Canadian communities in our North are not adversely affected by climate change.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my views and opinions. |
